Dr Toh is a Psychiatrist who has worked within various community, inpatient and specialist psychiatric units (forensics, geriatric, emergency departments, medical and surgical wards) over the last seventeen years. He has also held a managerial position at the Salisbury Community Mental Health Service, and was responsible for introducing a Brief Intervention Clinic for Borderline Personality Disorder in that service.
Through the experience gained in this variety of settings, he has developed an interest and expertise in treating complex trauma syndromes, personality disorders, psychoses and depression/anxiety problems. He currently works in the Community Mental Health Service, where he provides direct clinical care, supervision for trainees and medical students, and overseeing of service structure and function. Dr Toh also works at the Centre for Treatment of Anxiety and Depression, where the management focus is on CBT and Mindfulness based interventions. He also acts as a 'satellite' consultant for the Yarrow Place Rape and Sexual Assault service.
He is also a licensed trainer in the Connecting with People program (a suicide mitigation approach based on a philosophy of compassion), and regularly delivers lectures through the South Australian Psychiatry Training Committee, the University of Adelaide and the local Mental Health Primary Networks. He contributes regularly to forums and seminars run by the Adelaide University Psychiatry Society.
Dr Toh is also highly trained and passionate about mindfulness and sensorimotor approaches such as Yoga and the Martial arts, and brings this sensitivity where indicated into his clinical work.
Dr Toh blends in psychodynamic, biological and mindfulness/compassion-based approaches in helping others not only with symptom relief, but also to gain a better understanding of themselves and their capacity to develop as authentic beings.
